Sera Gamble is leaving

I think she did a good job with the show and I am sad she is going to leave.

Mass Effect’s Producer Promises ‘We’ll Keep Listening’, and New Content that Brings ‘Closure’

This is the link my friend sent me. Interpret it how you will.

I don’t believe anything anymore, to be honest. The entire world is a lie.

I can’t believe that they all thought the ending was a great idea, ngl.

Is he just tooting his own horn or what.

I’ll hold you to this new content, sir.

This is what’s known in the PR world as a ‘double down’. It’s another part of the reason why they haven’t said anything yet. They’re taking stock of the situation and assessing their options. Casey is a good dude, and the vitriol he’s getting — the vitriol that the entire company is getting, really — is entirely unfounded.

Let me put it this way — if I wrote a story, and had a hundred screaming fans telling me that I wrote it wrong, when it was the story I wanted to tell, I would ignore them. This is the story Bioware decided to tell. Yes, you don’t get the ending with sunshine and bunnies, but think about this: at no time in the Mass Effect series has this been a cakewalk.

Virmire, for example. You have the option to kill two people in the first game — Wrex and Ashley/Kaidan.  You can save Wrex, but you WILL sacrifice one of your human squadmates. There is no compromise. You can’t always win. Even when getting the Normandy’s crew out of the Collector Base, you’re still not in time to save all the colonists from Horizon. The doctor the Virmire Survivor talks to liquefies before your eyes — she’s right next to Chakwas.

You can lose your whole crew — including your companions — if you do things a certain way.  (Not saying it’s wrong or right, it’s just the way things are.)

The games were always about sacrifice. I knew that as soon as you meet your character. Come on, their name is Shepard. That’s a blatant Space Jesus allegory if I ever saw one. I mean, really, the “Lazarus” project?

The point I’m trying to make is, please just take a deep breath and settle down about the endings. The game has been out for two weeks, and they won’t be able to comment until the PR team thinks it’s a good idea. The Indoctrination theory is fun to think about, but until we get a yea or nay, it’s still just a theory.

Bioware doesn’t have to cave to the demands for people who want a different ending. Yes, I understand that you guys are the customer, (believe me, I know all about customers being angry), and it is totally your prerogative to no longer buy their products based on the ending. That’s totally fine. This shows Bioware that they’ve lost customers who were dissatisfied with the product they produced.

That’s a hell of a tall order, demanding that they pull in the big names they hired to voice these characters on such short notice — people like Martin Sheen and Seth Green don’t work cheap, I promise you. It’s also a question of time, because they have to write the scenario, model the environments, light the scenes, decide the encounters, and put it all together in a way that makes sense. On top of that, they have to pay the people who do all that as well. You want that right the fuck now? That’s not going to happen.

I’m not saying there’s not DLC in the works — it’s EA, of course there’s going to be DLC. They love their microtransactions. But calm down, please.

It’s fine to be disappointed in the ending. It’s fine to think about Indoctrination theory, and to speculate. It’s also fine to tell Bioware in a concise, thoughtful polite manner, what they can change the next time to make their games better.

What’s not fine? Whining about something you can’t change. I’ve watched the shitstorm rage through tumblr and the BSN alike and the sense of entitlement from everyone who has been raging about it nonstop has been kind of giving me heartburn.

Incoherent rage and complaining that you don’t get any closure will not get you the closure you seek. Yes, I understand the need to want closure in a game series you have participated in since launch; I would have liked to see it too. However, I have adopted a wait-and-see approach to this. I want to see where the story goes, and if this is the end of it, that’s fine, but I’ll respect the company more for sticking to their guns instead of caving to customer entitlement.

TL;DR — chill out, it’s not the end of the universe, not even for Commander Shepard.

If I pay close to a hundred dollars for a product that utterly fails to perform as its company deliberately advertised that it would, then you bet your ass I’m going to complain about it. Loudly. That’s not “entitlement” or “whining,” that’s common sense.

Furthermore, people aren’t just screaming into the wind about something that can’t be changed. That’s the exact point of all the complaining: the hope that it will get through to Bioware, and that changes will happen.

So please put a lid on your smug, patronizing, “calm down, silly children” bullshit and your attempt to police people’s legitimate displeasure. You have less than no right to tell anyone that their level of satisfaction with their own fucking purchase is “fine” or “not fine.”

Calm the fuck down, you silly child.

edit: For clarification, nobody, not Lywinis and not anybody else, is trying to “police” you. Nobody is saying you don’t have the right to be a whiny, entitled, bitchy little shit. What is being said is that you are being whiny, entitled, and bitchy, and the cherry on this little shit-sundae is your demands are unrealistic.

BioWare did not promise a specific ending in detail in their advertising. They promised that you would decide the fate of the galaxy. I believe all of the available endings cover that. You have every right to dislike the ending. You have every right to complain about it. What you fail to realize is that everyone calling you and others like you out on your childish behavior has every fucking right to do so. Freedom of speech does not come with the caveat “but only if it doesn’t upset ME”. It means that you have the right to express your opinions. So do I.

My opinion is that you’re all overreacting, making unrealistic demands, and really being outstanding examples of the whiny, entitled, obnoxious video game nerd stereotype. Congratulations on being what’s wrong with the Mass Effect fandom.

Insert something witty and creative here..?: Dear all Bisexuals, Pansexuals, Asexuals, or basically anybody who is not strictly Heterosexual or strictly Homosexual.

jiji-is-a-bunny:

According to my psychology professor, we do not exist.

According to her, we are wrong for existing.

My professor flat out said this morning that she does not “believe” in bisexuals. She proceeded to say that the only valid and real orientations are heterosexual, and homosexual, and nothing else…

Where the fuck are my fairy wings and magic wand?
